Daily Journal Continued September 28,1998, By William Thomas Thompson Be faithful unto the Lord all your days and live a happy life. Election years are not my best years due alot to obnoxious polit- ical commercials always on T.V. spreading mostly lies nonstop for months before the vote. This time the super Senator FritzHollings from Charleston,South Carolina is running again with acompetition from Congressman Bob Republican Inglish from Greenville. Fritz is being played over&over shouting"To hell with them all,I am free". Hollings was recorded 6years ago saying this and it may be out of but it is good enough for him to be shown saying what he thinks,I see he is using sacred social security to scare seniors into vot-ing for him while he lets them kill babies before and during bir-th. I am sick of this and I am sure a fate awaits us worst than a man can imagine. Ultraliberal Hollings has always been a advocate for advalorem tax to make our products 30 percent higher and I do hope he gets beat. This is the daddy of textile quotas that has so corrupted the importing process of clothing and hurt poor workers world over while not helping American working not even before the balance was given to Mexico, let it go. Eugene Stone of StoneManu-facting of Greenville got Hollings to do this years ago. This got votes for him and alot more. However,Stone closed down anyway and Eugene recently died. We all make our mark good or bad in life as we choose to be or do to help or to hurt others. Whatever we even so much as say or do may be headlines tomorrow. My brother always says to write it all in the sand on the seashore and let it wash. Enrich our lives with thy love dear Lord God,praise you..... I drove through downtown Saturday afternoon and police cars were everywhere,I could hardly get through to go to main Post Office, built on the wrong side of town where nobody can get to easily. I drove by the old PoinsettHotel where the city has CourtStreet now blocked off and are building a new parking building to serve that end of town especially the peace center which was built without a parking space at all. The rules are there to break. Some outsider did the deal to buy the Poinsett and sell to city the back corner for about as much as the speculator paid for the entire property. This included tearing down the 5,200 square foot Piedmont ballrm. This was the best convention space in town and these dummies tore it down. They could have straddled CourtStreet and had more space but they never use common sense. The hotel was sold to another in plans to restore it but nothing is being done, the windows are all knocked out and it is still sitting there abandoned. It is not at all worth fixing at todays cost of doing anything. It would never pay back the millions it would cost to restore it and the parking is too complicated for people to come into stay there, the pool is gone now and so is the drive up to the back of the gold ballroom. It is easy for outsiders to take the city for a ride. When I talk town,I really mean any town. Towns are syndicated like taxes, they are all the same take yous. The take you Hyatt conventionCenter at $14million citydollars, the recent Japanese Hitachi plant at about 12million,of course the new Bi-lo sell Hi Super Sports Arena that is to guard, park and pay now suddenly$500.00 fine if I visit with my artist friend on Whitsett Street,A policeman was in the middle of main street checking cars,it is Bi-loCenter time,What a sorry!
